3/12 OpenAI Launches Sora: Game-Changing Video Generator for ChatGPT Users
Revolutionary AI Video Tool... If You Can Get In
Good morning!
Today’s news is big, but as expected. OpenAI released Sora, their video generator.
Starting now, ChatGPT Plus users get 50 generations per month, and Pro users enjoy unlimited generations (with a queue):
From what we’ve seen in their demo, Sora offers powerful tools and a polished UI/UX. Users can:
Edit videos with storycards (a feature that allows you to create “cards” containing visuals, text, or a combination of both, which can be placed at specific points in your video's timeline to guide or enhance the storytelling). You can see them as notes for the model to follow during generation.
Cut and regenerate sections seamlessly.
Create videos from text and images.
Videos can be looped (e.g., where the last frame matches the first frame of the video to have an infinite video loop).
Blend two videos for smooth transitions.
Generate up to 20 seconds at 1080p resolution.
Horizontal, square, and vertical videos possible (huge for TikTok, Reels, Shorts…!)
Explore 4 variations at once or revisit and re-edit any project.
What’s most impressive is the granular control over video editing: you can tweak intros, outros, or specific frames with text or visual prompts. You can now generate a video, specify an action at the 5th second, and regenerate multiple variations until it’s perfect.
Unfortunately, we know very little about how Sora is made (besides that it's a diffusion model with a transformer architecture, as per their short technical blog post), but what we know for sure is that this is a feat of engineering and research. The model behind Sora is important (but still makes some obvious physics mistakes). Still, the UX is what counts, especially in such an artistic landscape where hyper-customization allows for production-ready generation in many cases (video games, films, video editing…). With a proper UI and patience, you can get something quite incredible, even if only 1% of generations are of high enough quality.
Plus, the video store keeps all your creations ready for anyone worldwide to use!
We will try it as soon as possible, but if you wanted to know, generating a 480p, 10-second 4-video variation during their demo took about a minute.
Unfortunately, availability isn’t global yet, but it’s launching today in many places.
So, we got it right for that one, here’s the updated Bingo sheet:
p.s. Unlimited video generation makes a good reason for ChatGPT Pro here!
