Good morning!
Today’s news is something we didn’t expect but was long overdue: A projects section on ChatGPT. This is the same feature we can find on Anthropic’s service as “Claude Projects.”
The project feature can organize your work in a folder-like hierarchy. A project can hold “project files,” “project instructions,” and chats, each of which can access the files.
One unfortunate thing about Projects is that while each chat has access to the project files, can use Canvas, or generate images, you cannot select the model of your choice (e.g., you cannot use o1) and can’t use the recent real-time video livestream feature. We assume that OpenAI will add these features over time as they update the apps.
It also seems you cannot refer to other chats in the same project, which is what we would expect the goal of a project to be: to have a “general” knowledge base for the models about this topic. But no, we have regular chats without model selection.
To add more knowledge for all chats, it has to be uploaded as a “project file.” You cannot create project inside a project (like we do with our directories).
Otherwise, the memory feature works just as before. We see potential for an even more customized experience with memories associated with specific projects. This way, you could have different memories for each project, separating the context. However, there’s nothing new regarding the memory itself.
They did add a search function to all users. This helps searching thought your past conversation. It was available for some plus and enterprise useres and it's a good thing that such à basic feature is now available for all (also long overdue).
That’s pretty much it. Not the most exciting release, but a must-have when working on a similar topic regularly!
That’s all. Nothing fancy today: just better “chat organization.”
Here’s the updated bingo chart:
See you on Monday for day 8!
